Kindergarten:  This week in Kindergarten Students are comparing different versions of stories and discussing the similarities and differences.  In math, we are reviewing all kindergarten math skills to prepare for end of the year assessments.  Students are writing their final opinion stories in writing workshop and publishing their writing on iPads!  As the students write these final stories, they will be sharing everything they have learned in kindergarten this year!

1st grade: Fourth quarter writing is all about Realistic Fiction!  Students are learning how to create a character and write about them in "real" or small moment stories.  First graders are discovering how to use dialogue or talking words to make their character come to life.

In small reading groups we are working a lot of skills including: strategies for different levels, monitoring comprehension, reading for fluency, and self-correcting quickly.  We will also synthesize stories, and practice our phrasing and fluency.  Students will be inferring, they will compare and contrast, use text as evidence, make connections, and have conversations about books.

2nd grade: Reading this week continues to focus on fairy tales.  Students are reading different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We are comparing the different versions of the story and discussing different points of view.  Math continues to focus on triple digit subtraction.  Students are practicing regrouping in the hundreds, tens, and ones place to subtract these multiple digit numbers!  Poetry continues to be the focus for writing.  This week students are stretching out comparative language throughout their entire poems!

3rd grade:  Hopefully everyone enjoyed their three-day weekend! It is hard to believe that the end of the year is here! Next week will be very busy for the students with the Awards Assembly and Field Day! Only 7 more days to go, so we are still working hard and finishing the year strong!

During Guided Reading/Center time, the students will be working independently or in small groups to complete their centers while groups of students will be working on reading their parts in  different plays. They will be performing their group plays at the end of the week.

Students are continuing to work on geometry in math; focusing on quadrilaterals, triangles, and other polygons and their properties and characteristics.

In Language, we will continue working on dictionary skills and using guide words to find words in the dictionary. We will also be looking at all the different parts of entry words.

Science finds us learning about matter and the three phases-solid, liquid and gas. We have learned that matter has three properties- shape, size and volume. We will learn how a physical change differs from a chemical change. Next week we will take what we have learned about matter and complete an experiment using root beer floats!

4th grade: This week we will be wrapping up several different things in all subject areas.  The week is also packed with many end of the year things.  We have an ensemble performance on Tuesday, the art show on Thursday, and the 4th grade celebration on Friday.  It will definitely be a busy week.

Thank you for all of your help and support throughout the year.
